Western Australian Premier Launches Women of WA to Strengthen Western Australia–Japan Leadership Ties
A Melanie Brock AM Initiative - JA Network appointed as delivery partner
Perth, 6 October 2025 ― The Hon Roger Cook MLA, Premier of Western Australia, in the presence of the Hon Madeleine King MP, Minister for Resources, today announced the launch of Women of WA, a leadership initiative designed to foster a community of women shaping the future of the Western Australia-Japan relationship.
Delivered in partnership with renowned Australia–Japan business leader Melanie Brock AM and JA Network, the program will provide professional development, cross-cultural immersion, and powerful networking opportunities for women working at the heart of this important bilateral relationship.
Women of WA will support Australian and Japanese women across key trade, investment, and innovation sectors including energy, infrastructure, defence, advanced technology, agriculture, and sustainability. The program will also welcome women from Western Australia working in Japan or abroad, reflecting the global scope of the WA-Japan relationship.
“At its core, Women of WA is about connection, capability, and creating opportunities for women who are helping shape the economic and cultural ties between Western Australia and Japan,” said Melanie Brock AM, Founder & CEO of Melanie Brock Advisory. “We’re proud to partner with JA Network, whose experience and deep understanding of the bilateral landscape make them the ideal organisation to deliver this important program.”
Central to the initiative are annual study tours, alternating between Western Australia and Japan. These immersive experiences will combine leadership training, sector-focused learning, and cross-cultural exchange. Participants will engage with business leaders, policy makers, and innovators while developing skills in governance, communication, and diplomacy.
Beyond the tours, Women of WA will cultivate an enduring network through mentorship, alumni programs, and opportunities for professional collaboration. The initiative will leverage partnerships with government, academia, and industry to ensure participants gain access to expertise, resources, and career pathways.
“By investing in women who are advancing the WA–Japan partnership, Women of WA will create a lasting impact on both economies and communities,” added Cristina Merino, Founder & CEO of JA Network. “We’re excited to support this meaningful initiative.”
The first Women of WA study tour is scheduled to take place in 2026 with applications opening soon.
